While almost everyone but the turkey was enjoying a Thanksgiving feast or breaking down the doors at the mall for those black Friday specials, Liquid Web CEO Jim Geiger was busy on his computer sending out an email blast informing the clients of managed host WiredTree that they are now customers of the Heroic Support® purveyors Liquid Web.
Inspite of Jim Geiger stating that they’ve have been working behind the scenes since August to prepare for this announcement about the company's acquisition of WiredTree, it seems that neither his company, nor WiredTree had the foresight to write a post for either company's blog. Guess an email is more personal! Geiger sort of explains this away by stating that during this time they’ve been busy working to make this a change that would elevate WiredTree client’s hosting experience.
So what does this mean for WiredTree clients. Geiger says that Liquid Web has been investing in new hardware to upgrade services, creating an upgrade and migration plan for each one of their valuable new customers, training their Liquid Web Heroic Support® and personnel in the infrastructure and products of WiredTree. They also been establishing a team of dedicated migrations specialists to assist in a smooth transition to Liquid Web.
Geiger’s email states:
WiredTree and Liquid Web have a shared history, a remarkably similar platform, and a common philosophy. We are committed to providing you with reliable, secure, and highly available web hosting solutions - surrounded by our 250 Red Hat, Linux and Windows certified technicians ... who are all US-based, direct employees of ours. We don’t outsource our most valuable customer interactions. Need help? Contact us the way you prefer ... we are available 24x7x364 via phone, chat and online ticketing. We own and control our three geographically diverse data centers and you can have confidence that we are on site and near your servers. We proudly serve over 30,000 customers worldwide and are thrilled that you will become one of them.
While that may impress the clients of many web hosts, WiredTree customers are already accustomed to 24x7x364 inhouse technical support which may be why Geiger’s ‘extremely excited welcome to Liquid Web’ email goes on to answer the more important questions.
- Pricing will not change. In fact, they intend to upgrade services at current pricing level.
- You will have the same or better products and services.
- You can expect not only consistent product capabilities, but will be providing you with the same or better products, with several improvements and benefits.
- Your IP address will stay the same and you may continue to use the same nameservers.
- Your new server will be given an additional IP address for testing. When it is time to move traffic to the new server, your current IP addresses will be transferred so that no DNS changes are required.
The 'upgrades' are expected to begin within the next two weeks but the company is promising to contact clients with information about their personal upgrade schedule and the exact hardware each will receive.
"Your data will be migrated to Liquid Web’s wholly-owned, state-of-the-art data center, featuring industry-leading hardware and premium security services. We have assigned a dedicated team to work on your upgrade and you will be provided a direct line to communicate with them throughout the process. We will follow up with instructions about your enhanced account and the new features it offers as well as billing and account management. You can be assured that we will do everything we can to make your server upgrade process a smooth one and to make sure your websites transition seamlessly".
While Jim Geiger emits enthusiasm in his email about the pending changes, one can’t help but muse whether to much change, too fast is always a good thing for the clients. Even for the casual observer it's obvious that despite offloading its shared hosting segment to Deluxe Hosting (dumped by Liquid Web in August 2016), it is still going to require a heroic effort just to integrate Rackspace 'Cloud Sites' hosting segment (acquired by Liquid Web in August 2016), and open that new office in downtown San Antonio Texas.
Only time will tell (and maybe the reviews... clients can share their experiences here) but past reviews by clients of both companies suggest that WiredTree and Liquid Web equal commitment to providing reliable, secure, and highly available web hosting solutions’ has translated into equally devoted clients.

WiredTree emerged in June 2006 to change the game for hosting services. The goal was to provide our clients with a superior managed hosting environment through unmatched customer service, innovative network design, a unique suite of services, and the most advanced server hardware.
To realize this goal, we created a solid support structure to better respond to client issues. With years of experience in the industry, we knew what worked and what didn’t, and we used that knowledge to enhance and streamline the support experience.
The final result is the industry’s most reliable, advanced and secure complete managed hosting solutions.
