Hosting Reviews for Afterburst

Afterburst (originally FanaticalVPS) provides a very solid service at a very reasonable price and I have recommended they to my friends looking for a VPS. I have been using an Afterburst VPS for almost 2 years now. I can report that the company provided dependable service and the support staff has answered my questions very quickly. Their prices are excellent for an unmetered VPS. Afterburst provides a service for people who know how to use Linux and are comfortable managing a server on their own, so I haven't asked them many questions, but they have always answered promptly when I asked.

I had a bit of a problem when they moved my VPS to another server which changed the IP address. Afterburst did send me an email informing me about the server move, but they didn't tell me that the IP address would change. It took me 2 days to get my site back up and running due to the IP change. The Afterburst support staff pointed me in the right direction once I asked, but I wish that they would have sent me an email telling me what my new IP would be and warning me to update my DNS.

I highly appreciate the fact that they allow me to select my Linux distro and reinstall Linux at any time from their web page, so I rate their features as "above average". On the other hand, they recently took away their VPS backup service, so now I have to spend long hours doing remote backups with rsync. My VPS started with 368MB of RAM (at $10 per month), and that hasn't been upgraded after 2 years, despite the fact that Afterburst now offers 1GB of RAM at that same price for new clients. I wish that they would automatically upgrade their old VPS with more RAM. In order to take advantage of the extra RAM, I will need to cancel my current VPS and order a new one VPS. I also notice that Afterburst doesn't allow TOR exit nodes, which is disappointing, but understandable since TOR exit nodes are a great deal of trouble for server providers, since they recieve many DMCA compaints about copyright violations.
