For the money, you cant beat it. Way too much advertising in the cPanel, but you can ignore it. Support is fine, they have always answered my questions in a timely manner.

The MAJOR drawback with hostgator is the "process limit" of 25. More then enough for 30 websites to share a single account unless you use IMAP email. 3 computers checking a total of 5 emails will crash your service due to the process limit.

I use them for several of my sites. I also have bluehost, ipage and namecheaphosting. I also used to have justhost and many others. So far I like hostgator the best, followed by namecheaphosting.

The "Gator" has lost its teeth. The renowned company Hostgator was known for is gone. Downtime, long waiting for support and FB-censoring in order to avoid bad press (what a genius idea, isn't it?) and customers running away are facts...

I started hosting my website with hostgator and before we even published the page there were problems after problems. Waited a month to get it fixed and talked to several people trying to get the problem fixed. Not only did they never fix the problem but when I moved the website to Cartika ( a much better hosting company) I was told that they would cancel the service. I was still being charged for 8mo for a site that never hosted the site for me since they couldn't get their act together.

After I found out the never canceled my plan like they said they told me they would on the phone and I canceled it they continue to send emails telling me to ay a bill for a service that they never provided. Horrible customer service. I have never been spoken to so rudely in my life. SHAME ON YOU HOSTGATOR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've been with Hostgator for just under 4 years. At first their customer service was amazing. I think in the first two years I never had one outage on any of my sites. Then last year things started to go belly up. Their Data centre in Provo seems to be going offline more often than not; and so has their customer service. At first I would get a response within an hour or two (Bearing in mind I am in the Uk with a 6 hour time difference). This included a callback if I chose. Now, I spend literally HOURS on the phone to their support team in the U.S. Just Friday I was on hold for 40 mins, then got transferred to another department for a further 55 mins. Gave up and called back; just to be put on hold for 20 mins and then told I wouldn't be on hold for long; and landed up being put on hold for another 50 mins. I don't care WHAT COMPANY you run, you CANNOT expect your customers to sit on hold for that length of time. And yes I know they offer the "online ticket service" but that failed and I am still waiting for a response to my ticket. Hence the phone call in the first place.

I can't even begin to describe how un-reliable HostGator has become since (2012) being taken over by Endurance Group. Stay away from ALL host associated with their Provo Utah data center (this also includes BlueHost, HostMonster and others owned by Endurance and host in Provo). I have experienced 3 major outages between early 2013 and 2014. Each outage has its own reason/excuse (hardware, firmware... whatever). On each of these outages ALL servers from the Provo Data Center became completely un-available at some point for HOURS... MANY MANY hours, affecting millions of websites, including Dedicated (and all associated websites with the resellers who subscribe), VPS and shared hosting. Use Google before you buy to see for yourself.....

WORST customer service EVER.. I should have known better than to sign up since it took them days to answer my PRE sales questions.. but I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt.. I signed up on a Tuesday, it's now Friday and I sent them NUMEROUS tickets to at LEAST acknowledge my request for tranfers.. NO response what so ever.

For the last year I have had nothing but headache with HostGator, unexpected maintenance, poor support that redirects you to the hosts FAQ with copy and paste replies and daily pop attempts in the control panel trying to upsell me services SEO, backup, etc that I dont need.

When my package expires I will be finding somebody else.

I have three websites and thankfully two are hosted by someone else in the UK. In comparison Hostgator a nightmare. One problem after another - as soon as one problem was 'resolved' by adding complex plugins - they found yet another. I have had so many 'restrictions' placed on my site for reasons I do not understand. If this is a reflection of service and how people are treated in the US, I'm glad I live in the UK. I can only warn people not to go to hostgator as I can compare what's happened with my other two sites and they are the pits!

I've been a HG customer since 2007. Until recently they were skillful at balancing the price/feature/performance equation yielding solid value. The last 6 months have been a disaster: downtime every month, sometimes for a day. Tech support is still there, but the company has lost it's soul. Sad to say, but stay away.

HostGator used to be a good hosting company until they started becoming too big, with fewer resources, while creating a lot of headaches to resellers like me.

One problem after the other, and restrictions that didn't exist, penalties, and sure extra fees!

Check this out! I want to have a blog using a dedicated IP, but I was informed that the only way I could get a dedicated IP was if I use a free SSL Cert. Why would someone would want to SSL a Blog?

Fine, I said. I tried to SSL the WP Admin, but that's when I was informed the the SSL Cert. is only good for 1 page/URL. Stupid, really!

Force you to use a SSL Cert that is only good for 1 URL!

DUH!

Big outage at their Utah datacenter today: was supposed to be a seamless and fast maintenance, which turned into a complete failure and more than 10 hours of downtime within the day.

I am reviewing their shared plan now, and I cannot say anything about their dedicated or VPS.

Their server is very powerful, with a lot of CPUs (32 on my account) and a big chunk of RAM: but god they are slow, often overloaded, and probably oversold.

This is really a hosting for the masses.

Their CPanel skin is simply awful.

The sales chat is having a HUGE queue: I never got to chat with somebody from the sales department!

I find their price expensive for the level of service provided, and their plans are designed to lock you up with them for yearS as if you were getting a good deal!

It is best to avoid them if you hate being part of a big brainless crowd.

The costs is reasonable and the service is fairly good unless they place your site on a server with issues. I have a reseller account on a server with continuing troubles and my small rarely frequented sites are being shutdown without notification. I will receive 8 notices but all 31 sites will have their databases turned off. And the support is horrible. It took me 4 days of site downtime to finally get a resolution to a server wide issue last month.

HostGator migrated our website to a new server which changed our DNS information.

They notified us only 13 calendar days that the change was going to be taking place, but did not provide any specific issues.

They updated us with the new DNS information only 5 1/2 business days before our site went offline.

While it would have been smart of us to have had multiple people on the e-mail notification, 5 business days notice is certainly not enough time to notify customers that their websites will go offline if a DNS change isn't made. At a *minimum* you should expect at least 2 weeks notice.

James, a supervisor at Host Gator, stated that they believe this is plenty of advance time and was unapologetic.

I would never recommend/use HG again. Your website can be offline with only a few days notification - and this is their standard practice.

Once again, I've had to interact with HostGator's terrible support and Level I technicians.

Today HostGator decided to "upgrade the hardware" of my client's server without his permission.

Then they "decommissioned" the old server, even though it is still connected to the internet (just not accessible), and is sending messages to the client and my mobile phone about different services failing.

They didn't even have the common sense to actually remove the server's internet connection, so now I'm receiving messages from the server on my mobile phone via text every 2 minutes or so (153 so far) complaining about different services failing because HostGator didn't have the foresight to remove the e-mail addresses from the server in advance, or actually remove the old server's internet connection.

I called to have them at least remove my mobile number from the server -- their response??

"We have to verify the account first sir."

I explained that it is a client's server, and that he shouldn't need to verify anything to remove MY mobile number.

I said if you want to verify my mobile number, call me back on it right now to verify ownership, and you'll have what you need.

After a back and forth for about 10 minutes, I said I'll just 3-way the client so he can give them the info they need.

He supplied it, and after 40 minutes, and back and forth about something as simple as that, he then simply opened a ticket and "escalated" to a Level II technician.

I could have opened a ticket myself in less time -- and in the meantime, I'm still getting text messages from the server.

Thanks again HostGator, you guys are constantly demonstrating how intelligent and resourceful you are.

Unlike a January poster who received hosting renewal notices, I didn't receive a single one - and HG swiped my card on file for another year of hosting without approval. I called to complain about taking my money without my OK, and it turned into a witch hunt on how stupid I am as a customer: ma'am, you checked the Terms of Service box when you signed up, and that's the only place we explain our auto renewal policy. I won't do business with a company that shoves it's shameful billing practices in my face to humiliate me. Network Solutions and other annual web services provide helpful renewal reminders, e-mails and actually have billing practices on a customer's account management page. HG does not explain anywhere on a customer's account page their auto-renew practice. Since when are customers the enemy that you need to trick into paying, and sneakily hide your billing practices in a Terms of Service legal document, paragraph 4? Daddy taught me to avoid snakes, and you should too.

I am internation customer of HostGator. I do agree with @Ken Parker "It's probably a fine host for sites that don't need much CPU power, but ecommerce sites should beware."

Starting date of being client of Hostgator: 2012-01-14 and now I am in the 5th month. I am Magento lover and using it for personal to learn about Magento online with actual installation and add with some affiliate products. I am on shared Hostgator since it is affordable to my pocket.

Now - all my websites are suspended due to CPU power issue as I didn't read all terms and conditions (my mistake):

7a.) Resource Usage

User may not:

1) Use 25% or more of system resources for longer then 90 seconds. There are numerous activities that could cause such problems; these include: CGI scripts, FTP, PHP, HTTP, etc.

I am not Magento expert either or server expert. I don't know what to do - just got the suggestion from Hostgator:

Magento

http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/modules_reference/english/mage_adminhtml/system_cache/index

We also have options here:

http://support.hostgator.com/articles/specialized-help/technical/magento/optimizing-magento

As customer, the simple way is asking websites will be up and running again. Thanks for the suggestions, lets keep learning. Overall, being suspended is not that good - it is hurt.

First and foremost to those of you complaining about HostGator, keep in mind that if you're running a business website, HostGator is probably not a good fit. Today I had to move a client away from their shoddy hosting services when she had a simple shopping cart (SunShop) which apparently "overloaded the database" because their hosting is wildly oversold (in case you're not sure what "overselling" is, it means selling more than what you really have available [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Overselling#Web_hosting] to the effect that you're hedging a bet that most users won't utilize too many resources so that you can make money).

All that aside, their hosting is shoddy, and even when they try to sell you a dedicated server, why buy it from them, when you could go directly to the source??

HostGator buys their servers from SoftLayer.com so why would you buy it from them and pay the middle man, when you could go right to the source??

In addition, I should also point out that since HostGator is just a "middle man", meaning they don't actually have a datacenter, if you had any issue with a dedicated server you got from them, they would have to simply contact SoftLayer.com just like you have to do as a customer. So why pay the middle man when you can go right to the source?

I had my client get a dedicated server for around $100 per month which included cPanel at HivelocityHosting.com and was done with it. It took me all of 1 hour to get her up and running after we ditched HostGator.

They advertise heavily and have what seem to be unbeatable rates, but in the end you really do get what you pay for.

To Ken: Of course they tried to upsell you. Your package wasn't big enough for the amount of traffic you were getting. Come one dude, is this amateur night at The Apollo? If you're getting serious traffic you need to increase you bandwidth, so you need a bigger plan. Honestly most of these complaints sound like people who didn't take the time to read, or watch a tutorial, then called in pissed because they couldn't figure out what they did wrong.

Read morons. Second, they only have 40 customer reps. 40. "OMG, I had to wait 10 minutes!" The first month my account was open I probably called up there 20 or 30 times, and every time (as long as I was calm) someone stayed on the phone with me until my problem was solved. If your not happy with the service, there is an immediate complaint system for you to report the person who was rude.

What more do you want?

I'm happy with them, going to stay.

HostGator allowed my URL to expire despite receiving two emails requesting it be renewed and a third requesting that I be invoiced for the renewal. I believed it had been renewed. Once it expired, HostGator did not inform me of that or let me know that I had a period of time to renew it before it went into redemption. The customer service people I dealt with made excuses, refused to accept any responsibility for the expiration and advised me that the terms of service made it my responsibility to confirm that it had been renewed. Maybe that is true, but it reflects a very poor level of customer service. I would expect a good "host" to keep its clients better informed and to have a more efficient system for renewals. Trusting HostGator to keep me informed of the status of my URL cost me $250.00. I am now looking elsewhere for my hosting services.

While new to Hostgator, I feel like I have hit the ground running in setting up my website. Tutorial videos are always a good idea, but only when done effectively and well. Hostgator's videos are just that. I look forward to working with Hostgator and, while only signed up for a year of hosting, I can easily see myself renewing when the time comes.

It quickly became obvious that Hostgator's servers could not handle a moderately busy PHP shopping cart (Sunshop) averaging 150 visits/day. In fact, they shut down our store due to its load on their server. We were out of business for a week before we managed to move to a host with less crowded servers; Hostgator's "help" consisted of trying to sell us a more expensive plan.

Another Sunshop owner reported having a similar experience after being satisfied with Hostgator for more than a year, so it appears that they only recently began overloading their servers.

It's probably a fine host for sites that don't need much CPU power, but ecommerce sites should beware.

Been with this host a number of years. They used to get tech support in a few minutes. This morning called, got tech support and ten minutes, was tenth in the queue. Got to three minutes then bumped me back to ten minutes again and tenth in queue. So I said this was crap to their tech support recording suddenly said I was first in the queue for next operator. Finally got a guy, complained about their broken queue system and he apologized then hung up on me. That is not good customer service I expect from the Hostgator I have come to appreciate. I twittered them my complaints about this and my tweets do not show up either. This is not the way to treat a longtime and paid up customer. It seems that when I tried to call their line for support again said 22 minute wait. This is getting as bad as ipower is, what's going on with Hostgator that their service is getting bad?

Still loyal but angry and frustrated customer this morning.

"This message is to advise you of a temporary block placed on your database. The database was found to be consuming an inordinate amount of processor time, to the point of degrading overall system performance."

...unlimited? Yeah right. As soon as your blog or website starts to get a little bit of traffic, there is goes. Database access blocked, bring on the Wordpress install screen to all of your readers and visitors. Great. Screw you Hostgator.

I can't even access their website sometimes. Doesn't go down for the whole world, and many of our clients get regular non-dedicated hosting plans there and haven't heard complaints. 7 chat sessions with support and a ticket 6 threads long in which I have to keep repeating myself. I wouldn't get a dedicated server with these guys under any circumstances although they might be awesome for Jo's pizza around the corner who needs 50MB of storage and 5 email accounts.

Previously I was using free hosting for my other websites and I have to admit I was a bit hesitant about signing up for paid hosting. However there were some features which I considered necessary for the http://e-productsreview.com website that I was not able to find with free hosting.

So I decided to start off with a monthly Hatchling plan @ $8.95 per month with HostGator as this would give me the flexibility to upgrade my hosting plan if required or to cancel my subscription if I was not happy with the hosting service.

So far I have been very pleased. I have not noticed any downtime or slow browsing speed. In fact I plan to upgrade from a Hatchling to a Baby plan in the near future to avail of unlimited domains and to consolidate all of my websites with HostGator.

I complained to them after the first one went and tried to set up an automatic renewal system like my other two hosts have but it never got done. (No I didn't check on it because of a death in the family keeping me away.) They have no notices going out that the domains are up for renewal. I am not sure how they stay in business if everyone is losing their domains. I have had websites since 1999 and have never lost a domain. I've only needed about 4 tickets and everything has been minor and resolved very quickly.

If you are setting up the next You Tube this package is not the answer but for average traffic sites its great.

on shared hosting, users are limited by resource usage. most of the users on a shared resources account are either banned for 6 hours every single day. take for example oneclickmoveiz.com this domain was on a shared account. and the hosting provider which was go daddy i believe or blue host disabled his whole site every day for 6 hours.

you can understand why this is. shared hosting is just another tool to get people into the real deal the debuted server package which is far more expensive.

when you read some users, say good things about hostgator it's because, they never really experienced high traffic usage on their site.

but those with high traffic and automatically suspended until they get a expensive server package.

those people whom seem to think there are no problems, just wait until your site hits that limit you too will see what follows.

Hostgator has always been okay for me when hosting personal web pages. It turned out to be a mistake for a small business, though.

We have about fifteen users at any given time using IMAP to access email. Each IMAP access creates one or two extremely low-impact processes. Hostgator only allows an account to have 25 processes going, which creates a HORRIBLE fake limitation in an environment that uses IMAP. When we go over our limit we lose shell access and the site goes offline with an internal server error until I call. Their support staff have been so uneducated, in cases, that they've lectured me about 25% CPU use (as opposed to 25 processes) when our CPU use is at about 0.1% or less nearly every time I've checked.

They have no way to solve this problem short of a dedicated server and no interest in helping out.

NOT a good solution for any sort of business environment. This strikes me as an artificial limitation designed to push dedicated servers.

I really like Hostgator! No noticable downtimes, moderate support speed (app.5-10 minutes), full of extra features (like php.ini configuration script or Shell Access for resellers) and the more important and nice feature is the low prices.

However, their servers becomes slower and slower (traceroute logs from Turkey) which is the most crucial thing that I look from my hosts.

Warning: I've only been with hostgator for 2 months now. Support has been excellent. These guys will open ports and enable features they'll even transfer sites for free. I couldn't be happier with the support. Of the 10 support tickets I've started, only 2 needed further explanation and the rest have been handled on the fly. These guys seem to really know what they're doing. Uptime has been 100%, but like I said, I've only been a customer for 2 months. So far, a very happy customer. I'll update my comments in about 6 months (crossing fingers).

Reliability of servers are good - didn't see much downtimes.

Support is good - ticket system works well.

Features are unlimited but resourse is not. And if any site consumes much resource they suspend the account (all websites) instead of the specific website.

Performance is average in general.

I manage 28 different clients' sites and USED TO have them hosted at Ipowerweb. That turned into an absolute nightmare with insecure servers, injection scripts, hackings, e-mail issues, etc. I couldn't WAIT to get my clients' sites off of Ipowerweb.

About a year ago I started migrating my clients' sites to HostGator and the process has been easy, with no glitches! HostGator has amazing support, either by phone (very fast,--no more than 3 minutes wait time -- compared with Ipower that could take easily an hour on hold to get through to someone), e-mail or online chat. Their support personnel are knowledgeable and very quick to resolve any issues.

I highly recommend HostGator. Even after the massive hurricane-caused power outages in Houston this year, their servers never went down! Awesome company! Great to work with.

Perfect in all terms, they have great support. We have been hosting with them for over 3-4 years now and except once when the servers shifted we have never had any issues.

They are available 24 X 7 [unbelievable but true]. We have also referred many friends there and all say they are good. One other issue with them can be like they do not help in installing things like FFMPEG etc.

Anyways, thanks for the wonderful support and service

I have had nothing but positive experiences with Hostgator.

Their reliability is second to none - proof positive, I experienced 0 downtime during Ike!

Support and features are excellent.

Keep up the good work Hostgator!

Generally 100% uptime, the support seems to be getting worse than when I first joined. Lots of nice features like SSH. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with them

HostGator provides an excellent value.

I have two accounts with them (one business, one personal), running 3 or 4 PHP/MySQL sites, and I have never had a site go down that wasn't due to a configuration error on my end. I have been using them for over a year (my DNS and MX are hosted elsewhere, so I can't vouch for the reliability of HostGator's DNS or MX servers).

I have been generally very impressed with the quality of service and speed (both bandwidth and MySQL processing speed).

My only real complaint is that it is not possible to directly copy between different servers in their system (except via regular FTP, but not SFTP, SCP, or rsync).

I have been very happy with their courteous, consistent, and FAST customer service - they'll even answer stupid questions courteously, professionally, and quickly (but try not to waste their time with stupid questions, please; we need their help for the tough ones).

Also, SSH access and up-to-date PHP and MySQL installations make deploying web-based applications simple. Occasionally an SSH session will time out, but at this price, that is really nothing to complain about.

I was with host gator for approximately 8 months, due to myself having 7 months worth of credit from constant outages, rude employee's.

The response times were slow, tech didn't help me for anything. It took them 4 days to fix a simple DNS error.

i have been with them for over a year and i have never had a problem (caused by thier end). the one problem i did have was with an .htaccess file that i mistakenly dropped in my root directory and it affected one of my sites 4 levels deep and within 20 min of the ticket the support tech emailed me back saying he had fixed the problem and even gave me a thorough explanation on why this problem occurred. i couldn't be more pleased with them. i have a free ping service ping my sites every 30 min to make sure they are online and the status on those after a year is 99.4%.... that speaks for itself

I transfered to HostGator from a poor hosting provider. Been with HostGator for over 6 months, they "Rock". My uptime is significantly higher. Speed and access to servers is great, feature to price ratio is hard to beat. On a scale of 1 to 10 I would rate them 9.5. Great job.

I used to be with ipowebweb which is like being in hell these days. I switched over to these guys and no downtime for well over a year. They are just the very best and you cannot go wrong if you want a website or even php apps like forums with no downtime. They are simply a heaven on the net!

I am with HostGator Since December 2007 and all was absolutely perfect until three days ago when we lost access to our cpanel, FTP and outgoing email. Access was intermittent and when successful, very slow and unreliable. The websites were up and running without problems however. FTP access to other servers (not on HG) was without problems.

The online support initially sent us to the ISP. That was strange since it was clear that it was not a DNS problem (HG hosted websites were operating just fine, remember?)

ISP tested their connection and could not access /cpanel either. They also completed a full trace and they resolved all our HG-hosted sites without any problem.

Back to HG - their senior admins examined the situation and after a lot of discussions they traced the problem to the servers and announced that they fixed it.

That worked for two days. Now the problem occurred again.

Current status is that we are without any possibility to update the website or FTP files. We also cannot manage the site via cpanel. At least the website is still up.

For me, HG reliability is at the very bottom.

Amazed about the capabilities of these guys, not only the support is incredible to the point of actually tweaking your website (Drupal based) and upgrading stuff but the answers have been spot on.

I love the features they provide although i wish they had a slightly better domain manager like the one you find on other host providers but that is all i can think of, everything else has been superb and the privacy and security are excellent.

These guys do not ask you for your own password via emails like other people do, they don't ask you for your credit card via email like others do.

I feel i am going to stay quite a bit here.

I've been with them on and off for about 2 years.

For the most part, I'm fairly satisfied with the service they gave me. Good uptime, good support - most of the time - and the pricing vs. features/space/bandwidth, well, it's an overseller so you get more than enough.

Although I had a good experience with them though, I felt a bit limited and now will be looking for another host.

I'm on one of their shared plans for about 15 months now.

The first year has been great, server had more than a year uptime. The only ~5 minutes downtime was when they upgraded the kernel. Everything was fast for more than a year but in the last two months they started having issues, a few minutes downtime, heavy load on the server (above 18.00).

Support was great too, didn't had to contact them except to tell them about the slowdowns.

I had a great first year but I'm considering leaving them, related to the last issues.

I also have another reseller account with them that I consider canceling, load is usually around 6 and I can notice slowdowns very often.

I switched to HostGator after five years with iPower, which got progressively worse and worse. About three weeks in now, my experience is mixed. Account setup was easy, but I've had to use Support a fair bit in the process of leaving iPower, and it's been inconsistent.

In particular, I got mixed information about what I had to do to execute a domain registration transfer, and then a fair amount of "wait and see" when it didn't go right (thanks to the previous registrar). I also had to go through a lot of back-and-forth to clarify some apparently inconsistent information in the Knowledgebase about having an Addon domain point to the same content as a subdomain.

Particularly unfortunate was the switch to a new ticket system this past weekend -- which automatically changed my password without advance notice, preventing me from logging in, but then failed to send me the new password as it was supposed to, forcing me to phone Support to get it in person. The new system also appears to have lost all my old tickets (including the open ones).

For all that, though, the support has still been far faster and friendlier than what I had to put up with before!

I am VERY satisfied with HostGator. I switched my company's website, as well as many of our client's website over to their hosting plans over a year ago and we have had no significant troubles at all. The very few times we needed to call support our problems were promptly addressed and remedied. They certainly have built the company with a customer focused attitude and we couldn't be more pleased.

I went to HostGator after massive problems with iPowerweb, and I'm glad I made the change after reading Hostjury's and other reviews. HostGator did a nice job in transferring my webapplications - even if one single of them appeared not compatible witht some of their security settings.

I chose HostGator based on reviews here and on another website. I wanted maximum uptime with minimum fuss. It's been a year now hosting about a dozen domains on HG and I am super-satisfied. Never even a second of downtime and their support has been awesome the few times I've needed to contact them. The only thing I don't like is the lack of virtual private server option, but honestly I don't need it. It would just be icing on the already great cake. Speeds are great and everything just works.

I came to HostGator from ipowerweb. Wow, what a difference. Support is INSTANT, via phone or via online chat. They are knowledgeable, helpful, and fast. I noticed my sites loading twice as fast. Haven't seen any downtime yet. Pricing is only about one dollar more a month than ipowerweb. Knowing what I know now, I'd pay a lot more than that.

I too just switched over from Powweb, after being with them for several years.

Thus far, hostgator has been nothing short of incredible. Where else can you get 600GB and 6TB bandwidth for $6.30 a month (after a coupon I found)?! Their support team has be exceptional as well. My large, dynamic sites are seeing an exponential increase in performance when compared with Powweb.

Keep it up!

I had been hosted at Powweb for 6 years when problems plagued my accounts for more over a year which made me look around for a different host. I have been with HostGator for a couple months now and I only have positive things to say about their hosting services.

Live chat is a great way to get help, friendly and very helpful, directing you in the right place if they cannot give you help on the spot. The ticket system works great and everytime I used it when I needed it I got clear, concise and helpful replies to what I needed to do or what they were doing to resolve my problems.

The speed of my websites has been amazing since I switched from my old host and that was the main factor that made me want to switch in the first place. I haven't experienced any downtime at all so far.

The only little thing I would have to say is that for one of my websites (I host 2 on a single account, soon to make it 3) I would have needed more than 2000 files in the main index directory and they told me that when I use my FTP program, I cannot see more than 2000 files at once. I rearranged my directories and seperated them in a different way so that I can see all my files. I would have preferred to have everything in the same place but it's not too much of a big deal. This is the only reason why I didn't put "Perfection" for the Features rating in my evaluation because otherwise everything is perfect so far. My websites haven't been running this smooth and fast in a long time.

Thanks to HostGator and I highly recommend this host!

I switched to this host after needing more space with my last host.

I got hosting with hostgator.com around July of 2007 and also started a new site with with them under the name otakuplayground.com

I did not really have to many issues with them but only used them for about 3.5 months or so. I only had 2 major outages with them.

1. was when the server was rebooted.

2. was when a member on my site caused a cpu overload and got the site suspended. The member was trying to cheat in an RPG game I have.

It was found after my site was suspended I was breaking the TOS which was why I no longer use this host. The rule I broke was the rule of no RPG games are allowed and thats exactly what I have.

I should also mention I did have a few issues with live support which later were worked out with the owner.

Over all they are a good host just make sure you read the TOS before getting them. ;)

I've been with Hostgator for a couple of weeks now, and it's a great company. Serverspeeds are very good, eventough I am living in Europe and the servers are located in The Planet, Texas. 24/7/365 live chat support has proven very useful for me and all requests have been dealt with very fast. The price is very correct. 9,95 for 5GB space, that's more then enough for me. I run a quite busy forum on their server and it's been no problem so far. Great job Gator!
