App Host Parse Launches into Web Hosting

Wed, 8th May 2013, 13:35

Parse, the cloud-based app development platform has announced its adding Parse Hosting to its product offerings. The service is being marketed as a solution for developers wishing to create a website without worrying about servers or scaling. Parse says developers can deploy their web presence through Parse Hosting with only a couple of commands.

Parse CEO Ilya Sukhar says:

“though the company has been focused on mobile first, many developers have a need for web hosting. Otherwise they have had to use yet another third-party platform. It’s a big piece of product infrastructure we've had a lot of demand for”

Parse has a free hosting model but requires the $199 monthly Pro, or a Enterprise level plan to use a custom domain name. Parse does offers limited free technical support to all applications running on the Parse platform, but it’s free support and is provided as “best effort and has no guaranteed response time”. (editor’s note.. Premium Support is available, call for quote)

  • Files are limited to 10 megabytes.
  • You cannot upload more than 500 hosted files.

Despite a claim to make every interaction with Parse an easy and painless experience (they do have an active forum community), Parse lives ups to one of its guiding principles. Built by developers.. for developers. Their documentation is not for the novice or weak of heart!

Parse’s physical infrastructure is hosted and managed within Amazon’s secure data centers and utilize Amazon Web Service (AWS) technology. A Facebook acquisition deal for Parse announced April 25 hasn't closed yet, but the social network says it plans to keep Parse in operation.
