Bluehost and Hostgator go offline due to maintenance

Fri, 2nd August 2013, 18:13

What was intended to be routine maintenance at the Endurance International datacenter has turned into a web host’s nightmare. Most, if not all  of Endurance International Group’s (EIG) brands including HostGator, BlueHost, JustHost, and HostMonster have gone offline causing a major headache for countless numbers of their clients. Some other web hosting companies such as MacHighway are also affected.

HostGator is directing clients to a forum thread that tells clients very little on the system outage.

Hostgator status updates on datacenter outage

HostJury will continue to update this post. Before jumping at one of those refugee coupons being offered by other web hosting companies, potential clients may want to check out their web hosting reviews. Nothing more frustrating than moving... twice!

Services should virtually all be returning to normal. This upgrade clearly did not go as planned (we realize this is an understatement), and it truly should have been transparent and seamless. We realize that apologies do not properly compensate for unexpected issues like this, however we want to thank everyone that commented to us with understanding and positive messages while we worked to resolve this. Your understanding is appreciated.

So why is everyone still 'angry'

Maybe it's the nameservers still not resolving, or it could be the company status pages saying there are no known issues.. possibly it's their own site has just gone back down: "The server at is taking too long to respond."

@HostGator says its phone support is experiencing outages because of volume; it's no longer updating twitter.. Apparently, @hostgator has reached its "daily tweet limit".

Update 2: EIG has started a status blog for more information.
